What You Will Learn This course details the responsibilities of engineers and other technical professionals regarding legal and contract issues. It covers what you have to know to interpret, apply, and correctly document procedures in engineering projects. Among the issues discussed are regulatory requirements, codes, and standards involving safety and environmental concerns. Attendees will learn how to communicate the relevant standards for a particular project, how to be sure they are being properly enforced, and the steps to take to address violations. Business issues addressed include contracts, patents, copyrights, and trademark laws, and how to interpret and apply laws within the context of contract and project requirements to ensure that intellectual property is adequately protected. Other areas covered are U. S. and international codes, standards, and regulations; professional codes of ethics; and ethical and professional liability, including applying and enforcing standards in international engineering projects. Terry Trimper Jones is the owner of J2 Consulting, LLC, which provides professional organizing and project management services. Prior to opening J2, Terry spent almost 18 years with American Electric Power, where she served on several corporate reorganization efforts and managed cost savings initiatives associated with a $400 million budget. Prior to working for AEP, she served as a public affairs specialist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Ohio River Division.
She is an adjunct professor for DeVry University and its Keller Graduate School of Management, as well as a motivational speaker. She was the first president of the Ohio Chapter of Women in Mining as well as the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers. She also served as a president for the Ohio Chapter of the Women’s International Network of Utility Professionals.
Terry has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The Ohio State University, and master of business administration and Juris doctor degrees from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. She is registered to practice law by the Supreme Court of Ohio.
